Fall is Here! - Mahoosuc Guide Service

October is bringing with it the promise of winter and we are all excited!

Here’s what’s new at Mahoosuc:

In late September Polly guided a fall foliage Allagash River canoe trip with Sue and Nick. The colors were at their peak and everyone had a great time experiencing the river with NO bugs and very few people. What a special time to be on the river!
In early October Mahoosuc guided a canoe trip on the West Branch of the Penobscot River with First Light Learning Journey’s with some participants being Wabanaki, some working for land conservation groups in Maine, plus sled dog Olga and Polly. It was a very nice trip with some exciting weather which made for a bonding experience! More meaningful connections were made!
Mid October, Mahoosuc Guide Service was at the first Maine Outdoor Economy Summit in Portland where Polly and Jennifer Neptune spoke on a panel discussing our work with the Wabanaki of Maine and our “Way of the Wabanaki” canoe and cultural trips. We also had a booth at the Base Camp show looking for winter helpers. These events provided very good networking opportunities!There are a couple spots left in the Wilderness First Aid course (October 21-22nd) and Open Recertification course (October 21-23rd) which we are hosting here in our lodge. Maine Wilderness Guides Organization will hold its annual meeting in our lodge October 30th with speaker Chris Sockalexis from the Penobscot Nation talking about his people’s culture and history in the state of Maine. Visit MWGO to learn more and/or sign up for the talk.

This summer was very busy and we wanted to share this video produced by a happy family from Germany who waited 3 years to do this canoe trip with us due to Covid restrictions. What a bonding experience they had!
