April showers bring may flowers and a great summer!
As always it is busy here at Mahoosuc as we transition from dog sledding trips to preparing for canoeing trips this spring, summer and fall. We do have room left on a few trips, click here to see our canoe trip schedule.
We had to say good bye to Travis on Easter Sunday, April 17th. He was one of Polly’s dogs and usually ran in the wheel position, right in front of the sled. At his peak he was 100 pounds and Polly used to call him “her giraffe” as he was so tall and long legged. He loved people and was a very hard worker. Travis was 12 years old and had one winter of retirement here in our house in the doggy retirement community. He will be missed.
It looks like we will have a very busy summer with canoe trips. Here are a couple videos to “wet your whistle” for a Mahoosuc canoe adventure/experience:

Your guides, Polly & Kevin, on the Thoreau/Wabanaki canoe trip. Kevin was the guide as they retraced Henry David Thoreau and Penobscot guide, Joe Polis’ route when he wrote the book the Maine Woods.
Registered Maine Guide Polly Mahoney
On April 9th Polly received the Legendary Maine Guide Award voted on by the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife of Maine department at the Professional Maine Guides award ceremony and annual banquet in Brewer, Maine. This is quite an honor and only received by one Registered Maine Guide per year. It was also a surprise, gulp!

Canoeists must use designated campsites on the waterway and there is no reservation system. In peak periods if paddlers don’t secure a campsite by mid-day or shortly thereafter, they may end up […]
For many avid canoeists, the Allagash River Canoe Trip is on their bucket list, and for good reason. Protected by the citizens of Maine through a referendum in 1966, the mandate was to preserve its “forever wild” state. It truly is some of the wildest areas left in the east. In this article, we’ll help […]
