The latest happenings at Mahoosuc as we move into summer!
Winter moved into spring and now we are quickly moving into summer! We have already had four canoe trips in May and this summer promises to be as busy as last! Click here to see our full summer canoeing schedule.
This is an older video of Polly being interviewed by a student for SALT magazine. I enjoy viewing it but it does make me miss my old lead dog, Jarvis.
Kevin has just guided a St John (Wolastoq) and Allagash canoe trips plus a couple day long workshops for canoe poling and white water refresher during this month of May.
Polly guided a day canoe trip to Umbagog Lake but has mostly been working on the dog farm doing some much needed upkeep. We are also working on a new website so stay tuned for the “new Mahoosuc” look! We have been told if we had more google reviews this would help our search engine optimization. So if you have done a trip with us and would like to write a review we would really appreciate it. Here is the link to your personal review and we thank you!
In the last month we have been busy with some other activities here on the farm; hosting a Wilderness First Aid course (next one in October), taught some of the new Kroka staff for a few days about campfire cooking, how to conduct a safe trip in the wilderness, among other topics, continued to help Jarrod build his new wood canvas canoe with Kevin in his workshop. It is looking very nice!
Article from Maine Inland Fisheries & Wildlife about Polly’s legendary Maine Guide award.
We are sorry to see our apprentice since October, Auden, leave for his next adventure and to follow his interests in wildlife. We are looking for someone to work with us this summer who would like to learn on our canoe trips and also help care for the sled dogs.

Hope to see some of you this summer!

I have been guiding on the Allagash river since 1974 and over the years I’ve seen a distinct pattern in terms of usage. Canoeists must use designated campsites on the waterway and there is no reservation system. In peak periods if paddlers don’t secure a campsite by mid-day or shortly thereafter, they may end up […]
We were able to do our canoe trips later this year as the weather has been unusually warm and beautiful! Here in the Bear River Valley our fall colors are past peak and the leaves are starting to fall. Temperatures remain very comfortable to do outside projects. There is a chill in the air at […]
Siobhan went to doggy heaven today. She was one of Kevin’s dogs and always up for anything. She loved people and children and whenever anyone came to visit the kennel she always thought they came to see her! She ran in any position in the team and was versatile sometimes going with Polly’s teams if […]
I do not have enough words to thank you. You have given such good attention and care throughout this entire weekend. I am so thankful that both days you tied my laces on my snowshoes. That made the whole day comfortable. When we were relaxing in the cook tent you went and started the fire in our tent. And first thing in the morning I see you again starting the fire so we can get ready comfortably!! You have worked very hard almost every minute of the day. You are amazingly organized, composed, efficient, diligent, soft spoken, kind, effective, detail oriented, attentive, punctual and a very very disciplined person. Dog sledding experience is unique. I was comfortable all the time because of your and Carolyn’s kind consideration. Your staff is very respectful and attentive to every one.
