Canoe Trips in Maine and on the Allagash River
This has been a different summer for us with the pandemic.
This has been a different summer for us with the pandemic.
Needless to say we are carrying on, guiding some trips and of course the dogs need care “no matter what”. They are always a joy to be with, happy, with wagging tails and appreciative of any and all our attention!
We now have the green light from Governor Mill’s office to guide people from ME, NH, VT, NY, NJ, CT without restrictions. This is good news for us. Residents from other states will need a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of the trip or after self quarantining for 2 weeks in ME. This is an improvement from earlier in the summer.
The dogs are happily running in the pastures daily, digging holes, trying to catch frogs, snakes or whatever they can, cooling in the shade on the hot days!
Kevin is building a 16′ Prospector canoe in his woodshop with a man who is fulfilling a lifetime dream in his retirement of building and owning a Prospector. Kudos to both of them working next to the ‘steambox’ on some hot days!!!
Polly is guiding some canoeing day trips in the western mountains of Maine. Call to schedule one, there is a 2 person minimum. Have had some nice sightings of moose! Here is an armchair photo tour of some of our trips, thanks Cheryl!
We have these overnight canoe trips on our calendar for this summer/fall:
West Branch of the Penobscot – August 12-16
Way of the Wabanaki – August 20-23 & Sept. 17-20
Allagash River – Sept. 8-13 & Sept. 27-Oct 2
Workshops/courses:
Intro to white water paddling clinic – July 24-26
Wilderness First Aid & Open recert course – Oct 23-25
Joe has been living and working with us for 6 months and has now traveled on to his next adventure. Thank you Joe for all your help here! We really appreciate it!
Here is a short video about paddling on the Allagash River with Mahoosuc to “wet your appetite” for a future trip or bring back remembrances if you have already been down it. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway’s designation as the first State administered river within the National Wild and Scenic River System. Click here to see a map of the river.
Hope you are enjoying the fruitfulness of summer!
Hope to see you on the water! Polly, Kevin & all the doggies
August was a busy month for trips here at Mahoosuc! We have a couple trips left for this season, our Way of the Wabanaki trip September 14-17th (there is still some space) and a couple West Branch of the Penobscot River trips which are contract trips with groups of friends. Kevin guided our Arctic Wildlife […]
There hasn't been any slowing down here at Mahoosuc despite the rainy weather we experienced this summer. People have been having a great time on the water and in the woods!

I like the way you treat your dogs and how your dogs in turn treat your clients. It’s such a joy to be around them. Although the trips that you organize take us into winter wilderness, I’ve always felt completely safe, recognizing the preparation and foresight you put into every trip. Your knowledge and friendly guides with their guiding, cooking and companionship greatly contribute to the experience.
