Pretty Boy passes on

Pretty Boy passed on August 2nd at the age of 13. He had cancer and didn't suffer long as he was only sick for one day before we diagnosed it. Pretty Boy was Polly's dog and he had been living in our daylight basement with the other retirees for the last two years. In his working years he always ran in Polly's team as he liked to cause trouble and needed to be kept an eye on. I think this was his way of being able to be in her team. Pretty Boy worked harder pound for pound than any other dog Polly has run. He was very devoted. We miss him. This photo was taken on the Allagash river a couple years ago.
Winter Helpers

We are now looking for apprentices for this winter season. We will need help with all aspects of running the business from caring for dogs including the retirees, packing food and gear, unpacking and cleanup after trips, setting up and maintaining winter camps and trails, running dogs including helping to train puppies, cleaning the lodge and farmhouse before and after trips. Must be hard working and responsible. Room and partial board available plus weekly stipend. For more info please contact Polly or Kevin (info@mahoosuc.com or 207.824.2073).
Yoga/Hiking Retreat

We did host a yoga/hiking retreat here in mid August and it was a great success! People really had a good time and the weather cooperated with us beautifully. Polly was leading the hiking portion of the trip and Kripalu certified Yoga instructor, Wendy Youmans of Bethel, ME. did the yoga instruction. This photo is a view from on top of Table Rock which is part of the Mahoosuc mountains.
Phu & Jason Wedding

We did host our first wedding here at Mahoosuc Mountain Lodge on July 12th for Phu and Jason. Phu was an Outward Bound student of Polly's 18 years ago at Hurricane Island Outward Bound School at the Newry base. They had a beautiful wedding with about 60 people attending. Everyone had a great time! We hope to host more weddings in the future. The setting here is quite magnificient with the views of the Mahoosuc mountains!
Grand Lake Stream

Polly just returned from our Grand Lake Stream canoe trip with 12 women participants. Everyone had a great time and the weather was kind to us with hurricane winds and rain in much of the state and we stayed dry until the last day. Sue Szwed helped Polly guide the trip and shared her knowledge of the wild edibles of the area and some of their medicinal uses. Buffy came along as the canine companion. She is quite comfortable in a canoe from all the years traveling with Polly. This photo was taken at Weatherby's Sporting Camp in Grand Lake Stream where we spend the last night before going to the Grand Lake Stream Folk Festival. It is a great way to end a good week! This photo only shows half of our group.
Mahoosuc Mtn Lodge

Mahoosuc Mountain Lodge is now available for rent either before or after a trip or for another occasion. You can read more about it on our website: www.mahoosucmountainlodge.com. This new timberframe lodge is here on the property with fantastic views of Old Speck and Sunday River Whitecap in the Mahoosuc mountains. It is very comfortable and the workmanship is to be commended!
